National Memorial Arboretum
The National Memorial Arboretum is situated in Alrewas, Staffordshire. It is recognised as the UKs year round centre of remembrance. it honours the fallen , recognises service and sacrifice, and fosters pride in our country. The Arboretum is part of the Royal British Legion family of charities. Within the Arboretum there are over 300 memorials and 40,000 trees a lot of these trees are dedicated to servicemen and women. The main feature of the Arboretum is the Armed Service Memorial (sometimes known as the wall.)
Having been part of a group of Orange Brothers that has visited the Arboretum on numerous occasions over the past 4/5 years, we noticed that there was no Memorial to the Orange Order. We had a few discussions on this topic, both amongst our group and with other members of the Institution that we met on one occasion at the Arboretum. We approached the Grand Lodge executive and asked permission to form a Lodge of Special purpose. This Lodge would be called
The National Memorial LOL 1914.
Mission Statement/ Aims and Objectives
To commemorate the members of our Institution who have served with our armed forces and who paid the supreme sacrifice.
To undertake the placement of a memorial within The National Memorial Arboretum and maintain the same.
Membership to The National Memorial LOL 1914, will be open to every Orange Brother that has received the degree of Royal Arch Purpleman or equivalent, depending on jurisdiction.
The joining fee shall be £25 and the annual subscriptions shall be £15.
